May, a month of promise and the harbinger of summer, brings days that are longer, brighter, and more hopeful. Our growing sense of energy and renewal lead to outdoor activities while enjoying the sunshine. As is tradition in May, we honor mothers for their contributions to family, and those members of the armed services who have died in service to our country.
Families and communities come together to honor both. A visit to the Southern Maine Coast will provide lots of opportunities for these celebrations at this special time of year.
Strap on Your Running Shoes

Whether you are an avid runner or aspiring to “up” your exercise routine, consider the Maine Coast Marathon, Half Marathon and 5K races held on May 3-4. Drawing both locals and visitors, runners can participate in these scenic races along the picturesque Wells coastline with courses featuring sandy beaches, ocean views and marshes. Started in 1980, this race is a qualifying race for the Boston Marathon for you ambitious runners, and a fairly easy course with no significant hills for those who prefer a more leisurely pace. Register early since race spots fill up fast. Start time is 10:15 am. mainecoastmarathon.com.
Ogunquit Lobster Bite Challenge

After the race/walk, indulge yourself with lobster, and more lobster at the Ogunquit Lobster Bite Challenge. This brand new event will feature top chefs competing for the title of Best Lobster Bite in Town. Your ticket will include lobster bites from each chef, wine pairings, and a celebratory Prosecco.
Event will be held at 10 Main St., (Ogunquit Playhouse), only 2.9 miles from Seaglass Village, on Saturday May 3 from 2-4 pm. Visit www.ogunquit.org for additional information.
Spring by the Sea:
Beaches, Beauty, and the Great Outdoors

Given the ideal location that Seaglass Village has along the Maine coast, visitors will enjoy the nearby beautiful beaches such as Wells, Crescent, and Ogunquit Beaches, all peaceful, quiet, with wide stretches of sand to enjoy. The serenity of the beaches in May is a major draw for those seeking relaxation and solitude.
Take advantage of the longer daylight hours to enjoy stunning sunrises and sunsets, the sound and feel of the sea, and the bracing, coastal air with its invigorating salty, fresh scent. Lower tides in May also present an opportunity for seekers of beach treasures such as seashells, sea glass or driftwood.
A short distance north from the beaches is Wells Reserve at Laudholm Farm. Their “Guided Tours Series” for May provide something for all ages and experience levels and another opportunity for enjoying the outdoors in May. Some of their events on the May calendar include the following tours: Hidden Treasures in the Wood, Sense of Wonder Walk, and Bird Watching. Visit wellsreserve.org, 207-646-1555.
A Taste of Tradition & Tunes:
Dine and Unwind at Jonathan’s

Another example of our coveted location is the proximity to the long established dining and entertainment venue at Jonathan’s at 92 Bourne Lane, Ogunquit. Only 2.7 miles from Seaglass Village, Jonathan’s was established in 1976 by who else, Jonathan, an Ogunquit native, in a landmark building that he grew up in.
Combining historic charm with contemporary comfort, Jonathan’s offers acclaimed dining, farm to table, Maine seafood, classic cuisine, and world-class entertainment. Some of the upcoming live shows in May include bands offering swing, rock and roll, and blues.
Make a reservation for yourself or share the gift of Jonathan’s with someone special (Mom, maybe?). jonathansogunquit.com, 207-646-4777.
